People with diabetes have unique footcare needs. A common symptom of diabetes is nerve damage – also known as Peripheral Neuropathy. This can present in feelings of pain, tingling, weakness or reduced sensation in the feet or lower limbs. Due to the loss of sensation in the feet, people with diabetes often are unaware of injuries or ulcers that may have developed. When we assess a diabetic, we check both the nerve supply and circulation in the feet. We also complete any general foot and nail care in order to reduce the risk of any diabetic foot complications.
